A commitment rooted in the brand’s DNA
At Chlorophylle, nature is not just a playground: it is a heritage to be preserved. Inspired by our 2025 annual sustainability report, this article presents the concrete actions we have taken to reduce our impact, improve our practices, and design clothing that is built to last, both today and tomorrow.
Play outside today, protect tomorrow
Founded in Chicoutimi in 1980, Chlorophylle designs outdoor apparel inspired by the territories that surround it. From the start, the goal has been to create durable, versatile, and timeless products that can accompany those who love the outdoors for years to come. Sustainability emerged naturally as a logical connection between the product, the environment, and real-life use.
More responsible materials, clear targets
Choosing primary materials is one of the most important factors in reducing a garment’s environmental impact. At Chlorophylle, this transition is guided by clear, measurable goals that are tracked over time.
A measurable strategic shift
One of the key aspects of Chlorophylle's sustainability strategy is the selection of raw materials. In 2025, we achieved a significant milestone: nearly 70% of the materials we use are now eco-responsible, meaning they are either organic, recycled, or biodegradable.
Our goal is clear: we aim to increase this percentage to 85% eco-responsible materials by 2030. This steady progress demonstrates our genuine commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our collections, while still maintaining performance and durability.
Reducing impact without compromising performance
Performance, comfort, and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand. This is why Chlorophylle has focused on the technical components of its apparel, which are often the most complex to transform.
More responsible insulation, linings, and water-repellent treatments.s
For several years, we have been transitioning our technical components. In 2025, more than 70% of the insulation used is now eco-responsible, including RDS-certified down and synthetic insulation recognized for both performance and environmental commitments.
Linings follow the same path. Today, 86% are made from recycled materials, helping reduce the environmental footprint of our apparel without compromising comfort or durability.
Water-repellent treatments have also undergone a major shift. In 2025, 93% of products use PFC-free treatments, meaning they no longer rely on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. These chemicals were long used to make fabrics water-repellent but are known for their persistence in the environment. This transition continues with a clear goal: to reach 100% PFC-free treatments by 2026, using solutions that provide effective protection from water and moisture while reducing environmental impact.
Certified primary materials
Material certification is crucial for ensuring traceability, credibility, and meaningful impact in textile choices. This process has evolved over time, with a clear intention to depend on recognized standards and independent third parties to guide the sourcing of primary materials.
Currently, 65 % of our primary materials are certified. This achievement results from a thorough selection process for our suppliers and the incorporation of internationally recognized certifications. This progress aligns with our long-term vision, which includes a clear goal of reaching 95% certified primary materials in the coming years.
Key certifications include bluesign®, the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), OEKO-TEX®, and the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). These standards tackle significant issues such as the use of recycled materials, the reduction of harmful substances, responsible resource management, and the consideration of environmental and social criteria throughout the supply chain.
A human, local, and committed approach
Sustainability at Chlorophylle goes far beyond product design. It is also expressed through initiatives with real human, social, and community impact.
The Jacket Donation, extending the life of garments
Among these initiatives, the “Jacket donation” event plays a central role. Now in its seventh year in 2025, this initiative invites customers to donate a coat in good condition to be given to someone in need. Since its inception, the campaign has donated nearly 5 000 coats, giving each one a second life.
Beyond being a gesture of solidarity, the “Jacket Donation” embodies a strong belief: sustainable clothing is durable and meant to be passed on. This initiative reduces textile waste while also providing direct support to local communities.
Concrete actions every day
This human-centered approach is evident in the company's internal practices. Their warranty repair workshop aims to extend product life, while initiatives such as exploring local manufacturing for specific items, responsible purchasing and event policies, recycling programs, and waste reduction efforts help align the brand's values with its everyday actions.
Employee well-being is a crucial aspect of this commitment, supported by initiatives that promote a healthy, engaging, and sustainable work environment.
Moving forward, step by step
Sustainability is an evolving process that requires rigor, transparency, and humility. At Chlorophylle, each step forward is based on concrete, measurable actions, without claiming perfection.
An evolving and transparent approach
In 2025, strong foundations were put in place to structure and advance our sustainability efforts. Year after year, we continue this transition with consistency and a clear goal. To design durable outdoor apparel meant to be passed on, while respecting the territory that has inspired the brand for more than 40 years.
