RECCO® Technology for Safer Expeditions
At Chlorophylle, we believe that adventure should always go hand in hand with safety. That’s why, for several years now, we have been integrating RECCO® technology into selected clothing and accessories designed for outdoor enthusiasts. This detection system helps make it easier to locate people lost in the wilderness—an essential advancement for the safety of hikers, skiers, and adventurers of all kinds.
A Partnership That Makes a Difference
Since June 2022, the coopérative de solidarité Helico Secours has been responsible for the exclusive helicopter‑based operation of RECCO® technology in Quebec and Eastern Canada. This strategic partnership with Chlorophylle aims to make outdoor activities safer and more accessible for everyone while supporting search-and-rescue operations.

A Tangible Commitment to the Safety of Outdoor Enthusiasts
For 45 years, the proudly Saguenay‑based Quebec brand Chlorophylle has played an active role in prevention and safety in natural environments. To date, 7,343 people wear the RECCO reflector integrated into their Chlorophylle apparel.

Technology Designed for Hikers
Chlorophylle integrates RECCO® technology into backpacks and jackets designed for hikers and skiers. This equipment helps outdoor enthusiasts be better prepared and more easily located in case of an emergency. Since the pandemic, visits to natural areas have increased significantly, often without improved preparation on the part of adventurers. RECCO® technology provides an effective solution to this challenge.
How does RECCO® work?
- The RECCO® detector emits a directional radar signal.
- When it encounters a RECCO® reflector integrated into a garment or accessory, the signal is reflected back to the detector.
- The closer the detector gets to the reflector, the stronger the signal becomes, allowing rescuers to locate the victim quickly.

Helico Secours holds exclusive rights to use RECCO technology in Quebec and, in support of its mission, brings together a wide range of partners from various sectors, including healthcare and aviation. Its RECCO search operations are conducted in collaboration with Sauvetage 02, which provides a team of search-and-rescue specialists to form rescue crews.
